The necessity of Close-reading of Media is being more and more realized in the present world. Aijas Ahmed in his book on war in Middle East shows that he was able to write it only because of Counter Puch, a small counter voice from America. Despite the 24hrs channels and worldwide networks the voice against the real war-monkers is very bleak. We need not suffer much to know the reason. It is simply because the owners of means of production actually own all ideological apparatuses including media. Left intellectual and critic Walter Benjamin imagined a more democratic world with mechanized production. However Benjamin was true to a great extent since machines opened up a new world before those who were denied belles-lettres.
From its formation mass media was considered as one of the imperative part of democracy. The notion of liberation inherent in media resulted from the role it had to play in the period early modernity. Along with the growth of capitalism to its fullest capacity media could find no other way than playing in tune with profit centered logic of the capital.
Nowadays it has no other option than serving imperialism and capitalism. As the instrument of the imperialist forces, it dissolves all its ethical justice and societal commitments. The imperialist forces keep the media under its control for regulating the world. The imperialist forces broadcasted what they want and created a new societal atmosphere which is controlled by the market. Through the power of the new medium the imperialist have kept the masses in its control and the masses become mere consumers of what they produce. Choice of the masses become limited and the decision making power has been vested in the hands of the marketing forces.
Today we have witnessed that media and its new faces are trying to dissolve the left movement in India and elsewhere. Why they focus on the left? The reason behind it is that left is the only one political force who tries to block the imperialist forces and its globalizing agenda in India. That is why they are focusing on left forces and creating numerous tribulations both in Bengal and Kerala. In both these states a number of activists are being killed by the maoists and the trinamool congress goons, but the mainstream Media cunningly keep silence about the killings where the hue and cry against left even when slight resistance is shown. It happens because of the influence of money behind the scene. Most of the main stream Media is controlled and regulated by the corporate power and proposing propaganda that basically helps the imperialist forces to strengthen and widen their ideology.
In Kerala, there are numerous attacks against the left through the main stream Medias. So the need of an alternative media is very significant in this society, where the Medias have strong hand. We try to slot in with the new world of informatics like internet news, magazine and journals. With this we are trying to show what the news is and what the media have to do in this society. With the serious involvement in the issues in education and other issues in society we will show an alternative face of media. Be with us for the new heights.
